These heirloom decorated mugs are hand carved and inlaid with blue daisy designs that are then highlighted with a bit of yellow in the center. Each mug is a little different as these are hand carved like doodles and colors vary with each, but each mug will have daisies dancing around the exterior. (If you're heart is set on a particular style of interpretive flowers more than another or particular colors - just let me know in the notes and I'll try to accommodate using my decorating style). Zoom in on the pictures to see the glaze effects closely in these examples. Every mug is slightly different but based on the same design theme, each design is hand carved and painted individually using a combination of underglazes, watercolor techniques, slip or underglaze trailing, and waxes on English Porcelain clay. English porcelain is like working with cream-cheese at times; however, the translucency, purity, and nature of this clay in the kiln make it best suited for an everyday item that also acts as a painter's canvas. I am happy to entertain different colors or sizes in the painted designs using my decorating style upon order - please indicate your desires in the checkout notes and I will be happy to try to accommodate.

Two sizes:

10 oz: Average size - 5" handle to rim width (approx 4" cup diameter), 2" tall.
6 oz: Average size - 5" handle to rim width (approx 4" cup diameter), 2.5"tall.

Made to Order. Timeframe for delivery is typically 6-8 weeks from order depending upon the humidity in my studio for drying handmade clay items. If you have a timeframe you are expecting this made to order item by, please let me know in the checkout notes and I will do my best to accommodate your needs while taking into account the success of the creation process. Porcelain in particular needs to dry slowly for success.

Made to order, drop-ship, and print-on-demand products listed on this website each may have longer than expected delivery timelines. Please see all information about the product to understand the shipping timeframe. In some cases, items on this site will be shipped directly to you from a producer of that item vs. directly from Amy Lee's studio. I partner with other artisans and producers to allow this website to flourish in addition to spending time making new fun small-batch items in my studio!

This item is one-of-a-kind. My one-of-a-kind work is called 'Heirloom' because somewhere deep inside me it is my hope that you will pass this along through the generations for others to enjoy its unique nature. I also call items 'Heirloom' when I've spent more hours decorating a piece than I could ever truly recover by charging a premium for it. It's part of the process I love. It's part of what makes the medium ever-changing for me. It's part of the challenge of what new creativity might be drawn out and onto my work. Thank you for supporting this passion!

My handmade pottery items are made individually when I "throw" clay on the potter's wheel to shape the basic form. Sometimes I literally throw it onto the wheel head to get it to stick well, but the process in-general is called "throwing". They are turned over, re-centered, and trimmed when the clay has been allowed to dry slightly. Sometimes I also start with slabs of clay that are then hand-built into their shapes vs. on the wheel. Handles and other clay additions are then added and the piece is allowed to dry very slowly to prevent warping or cracking. When the piece is completely bone dry it is fired in a kiln (think big clay oven) to a temperature of just over 1800 degrees F. After this first firing, the piece is then decorated with glazes that a much like a slurry of powdered glass in water and often do not look anything like their finished colors. When the glaze is dry, each piece is carefully loaded back into the kiln to be fired again to a temperature over 2200 degrees F. This work is considered "mid-range" temperature pottery fired to Cone 6-7 upon completion.

These items are one-of-a-kind, handmade items and should be hand-washed or top-rack dishwasher washed. They are microwave friendly when no metallic glazes are used; however care must be used to ensure you do not overheat them or expose to thermal shock conditions.
