Did you know that 1 in 10 people in the world do not have access to clean drinking water? Did you know that water-borne illnesses have killed more people than war?! Did you know that 83% of the individuals responsible to help their families survive in water insecure places on the globe are women and children? Did you know that we have the power and the technology to fix this problem?

I did not know these things until I met charitywater.org. This organization fuels water security projects throughout the world via donations that go 100% to provide water to people in need. It is amazing to me living my whole life in the USA how much we take for granted. My Facebook feed is often filled with trivial problems and complaints when people in Cambodia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and India spend hours daily walking an average of 4 miles to carry 40 pounds of water that is dirtier that the water we in the USA use to flush our toilets.

On August 18th, I was fortunate to see a group of people moved by these facts like I am step a day in the shoes of those without water. The Rising sponsored charity: water walk saw approximately 59 people walk 4 miles carrying 40 pounds of water literally walking in the shoes of those in need to raise money for water projects globally.

In support of this initiative Amy Lee Pottery provided porcelain medals and souvenir ornaments for participants. Top fundraisers, Natalie Beyer and Haley Reed walked as "The BFF's that Walk Together, Stay Together" team. So far 186 people will have access to clean water FOR LIFE through the efforts of this event! You can see more pictures from this event here.
